Artist to Know: Jennie C. Jones and the Beauty of Minimalism

There is something magical about minimalist art and Jennie C. Jones is one of my favorite artists who creates beautifully crafted artwork that speaks to me in its color and form. Hailing from Cincinnati and now living in Hudson, New York, Jones is both a visual and auditory artist experimenting with color, form and sound. Her work is both minimalist and modern.

Jennie C. Jones has won both the Joyce Alexander Wien Prize, one of the biggest awards given to an individual artist in the United States and most recently, the 29th Heinz Award.

What I love most about Jones’ work is that is vibrant, striking and simple at the same time which, in the chaos of modern life, is remarkably refreshing. Her work elevates the space that it is in and draws you in for a closer look at the edges, the color, the nuance.

I find Jones’ work evokes quiet contemplation with its clean lines and dependence on color and texture rather than brush strokes, objects and faces. It makes me think of courage, simplicity and authenticity all at the same time, all virtues that I wish for myself in my own life. Those are all very good things for art to gift upon a viewer in my mind.
