A Little Bit of Painting Every Day…

I have been struggling with so many emergencies over the last 6 months that it seems that I have (at least temporarily) lost my desire to create. But I have decided to fight back because painting has become so important to my mental and spiritual well-being. Creating art is my dream…dealing with business calamities, pet illnesses and family emergencies are just the distractions that I’m sure every artist has to deal with. They shouldn’t be my excuses to keeping up my creative practice.

So I’ve decided to try something that I learned from artist Carol Marine (https://www.carolmarine.com) author of Daily Painting who related her own journey as an artist to building a thriving business. She said when she first started painting in 2004, she struggled to create art that could sell enough to support her and her family or would sell regularly. Eventually, she decided to try painting a small format piece of anything that was around her on a daily basis and posting it on her blog. She said that was the decision that changed her career. By painting everyday, she felt less pressure to paint something grand or important. She was able to paint simple scenes and try new styles knowing that she could do it again the next say if she didn’t like it. And above all she started to get excited to get up in the morning and paint again. That’s what I want to get back to. That feeling. So this is what I painted today.

So I’m going to commit to painting something small and simple everyday and posting it here. Let’s see how things turn out!
